That was the topic for discussion last Tuesday 23 June 2015. A topical subject considering the lesbian classic novel 'Carol" by Patricia Highsmith (pictured) has just been turned into a movie starring Cate Blanchett and is due out at the movies soon.

: “For most of them it was a challenge, straight friends just don’t get it, I wouldn’t bother as I’d need to sit them down for about 5 hours to give them an idea about what it’s like to be un-straight, some straight girls lecture you about what it is to be gay or tell absolutely awful lesbian jokes, kids watched the “L Word” and had positive comments, “Fire” is the best lesbian movie made but I wouldn’t want to watch it with my straight friends, it’s uncomfortable because they say to me ‘do you do THAT’, don’t have straight friends, straight girls like ‘Queer as Folk’, grandparents showed support by watching ‘Better Than Chocolate’, any sex scene on television is awkward to watch with your parents, straight friends take me to lesbian movies, haven’t seen any lesbian movies I would recommend and only the gay-ish movie ‘Withnail and I’ that I liked, made a mistake of showing my mother a lesbian movie in the 80s. And thank you to the wonders of mobile phones: the lovely Sharon texted in that straight people encouraged her to go to lesbian movies.
